There’s nothing better than a fresh-from-the-vine tomato, still warm from the summer sun. Tomatoes are one of my favorite things to grow – they’re relatively easy to grow and their fruit roles in almost all summer long. To celebrate the hearty, versatile tomato, I’ve collected my 13 favorite ways to cook them. Enjoy!

Dairy Free, Gluten Free Tomato Soup
This quick and easy 30-minute meal has most of my favorite ingredients in it: bacon, garlic, and potatoes. Yes – that’s right, potatoes. The addition of a potato to this recipe gives it it’s thick, creaminess without having to add any flour or butter (and keeps it gluten- and dairy-free).

Green Tomato Marmalade
This. As a woman (or man!) grows as a cook, they become known for certain signature dishes. This would be mine…if I shared it with anyone.
I’m happy to share the recipe, but don’t come to my house looking for any, because I won’t share the actual marmalade. I squirrel it away like some people do Girl Scout cookies.
I first found this recipe in a cookbook from the 1860’s The Virginia Housewife. While I had to experiment to get the exact measurements right, the resulting spread is beyond anything I could have expected.
The sugar makes it sweet, the green tomatoes gives it a tart, deep, umami…if you try this recipe, you’ll need to plant some extra tomato plants just so you can harvest the green ones!
