This delicious cast iron pizza recipe is quick and easy – taking only 20 minutes – but is sure to be a weeknight hit!
The secret behind this delicious, easy recipe is a Dutch Baby. (A Dutch what??) No – I’m not the witch in Hansel and Gretle – a Dutch Baby is a large American popover, similar to a yorkshire pudding!
This recipe for a Dutch Baby came to me from my neighbor, who had torn the recipe out of a magazine and kept it for safe measure. I found the recipe again on From Seed to Supper and bookmarked it for future reference.
You make a quick “dough”, melt some butter in your cast iron pan, pour in the dough and throw that “baby” in the oven! 16 minutes later you have the most light and fluffy, delicious base for whatever your heart desires.
Add some powdered sugar and apple pie filling for a guests-just-showed-up-unannounced desert. Add some taco meat, cheese and salsa for a quick taco salad bowl.
Or, in our case, throw some sauce, cheese and pepperonis on for a quick homemade pizza!
Don’t fret if it starts to deflate the second you take it out of the heat – it’s still light and fluffy and delicious.
Simply spread your marinara on top of the Dutch Baby, add your mozzarella and toppings and pop it back into the over for 3-5 minutes to let the cheese melt and everything to meld together.
Slice and enjoy!
